About me

After a life changing event I re- trained to become a designer in ceramics at Staffordshire University . I had previously worked with constructed textiles at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design and was keen to become a weaver. I found like many others before me that sitting for hours at a loom was exhausting and beyond my ability to sit still for such long periods . I was grateful that Staffs Uni to took me onto their 3D Craft – Ceramics course and my journey into ceramics began. My biggest influence was working with Phil Eglin who gave me the confidence to trust in the line drawings I have been making for the past seven years.

My work is very much bound within a Eurocentric design focus . This is something I am working to re dress as I begin to study design influences globally and from a post -colonial perspective. My work has many features of traditional ceramic practices , majolica ware, Staffs china jugs and earthenware thrown pots . I paint with slips and use decals for some of my line drawings . The visual narrative I tell in my current work is influenced through being confined to home in ‘lockdown’ and I have responded to a world viewed through my window. Garden stories and memories of travels feature upon forms that are both familiar and domestic in these collections.
